HORICON NWR - Nine young whooping cranes were released at Horicon Marsh last Thursday night as a part of the Direct Autumn Release (DAR) program. According to Diane Kitchen of the Fish and Wildlife Service at Horicon National Wildlife Refuge, the cranes split into two groups but remained at the marsh. Their enclosure was closed because one group tried to reenter their pen, where they had been raised by crane-costumed human handlers.
